PROTEINS

Proteins are complex molecule composed of amino acids and are necessary for the chemical processes that occure in living organisms. Proteins are substances without which life can not exist.

Proteins are difined by their primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures. The primary structure is the number of polypeptide chains and the sequence of amino acids in each. Secondary structure comes when the polypeptide takes a particular orientation in space. Tertiary structure is folding and twisting of polypeptide molecules. Quaternary structure contains more than one polypeptide.

Bones, teeth, and the other body structure have a protein-based organic matrix. Peoteins are important for the growth, the maintenance, and the repair of the body structures. With the exception of
normal urine and bile, all body fluids contain protein.
