Proteins are difined by their primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures. The primary structure is the number of polypeptide chains and the sequence of amino acids in each. Secondary structure comes when the polypeptide takes a particular orientation in space. Tertiary structure is folding and twisting of polypeptide molecules. Quaternary structure contains more than one polypeptide.

Bones, teeth, and the other body structure have a protein-based organic matrix. Peoteins are important for the growth, the maintenance, and the repair of the body structures. With the exception of normal urine and bile, all body fluids contain protein.
